Privacy policy
SortedTradie is run from Victoria, Australia. You can contact us about privacy at [email protected]. We collect as little personal information as we can. As a small business we may be exempt from the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), but we choose to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) as a matter of good practice. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
- Information you send us. If you email us, we receive your name, email address and whatever you write. If we add a contact form or newsletter later, it will collect the details shown on the form.
- Site usage information. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Cloudflare says it does not use cookies or local storage for this, and it doesn't track you across other sites. It records things like the page visited, referring site, country, device and browser type.
- Technical information. Our host, Cloudflare, processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from attacks and abuse.
- Affiliate click information. Most of our affiliate links go through
/go/addresses that redirect you to merchants, and Amazon links go straight to amazon.com.au. We may see which link was clicked and roughly how many clicks and sales each link produces, but merchants don't give us your name, contact or payment details.
We don't knowingly collect sensitive information, and the site is not directed at children.
Cookies and affiliate partners
The site itself does not set advertising or tracking cookies. When you click an affiliate link, you leave our site. The merchant or affiliate network (for example Amazon, PartnerStack, Commission Factory or impact.com) may set a cookie or use similar technology on their own site to record that you came from us, so they can pay us a commission. That is handled under their privacy policies, not ours. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some merchant features may not work.
How we use and disclose information
- To reply to you and handle requests or corrections.
- To run, secure and improve the site, and to understand which guides are useful.
- To meet legal obligations.
We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't use it for direct marketing unless you ask to hear from us (you can unsubscribe at any time). We only disclose it to service providers who help us run the site (such as hosting, analytics and email), or where required or authorised by law.
Overseas services
Some providers we use, including Cloudflare and our email provider, may store or process information outside Australia, including in the United States and other countries where they operate. We choose reputable providers and only share what they need.
Storage and security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, such as using secure, password protected accounts. We keep emails only as long as we need them and delete or de-identify information we no longer need. No method of sending data over the internet is completely secure.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can also contact us anonymously or using a pseudonym where that's practical. Email [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days.
If you have a privacy complaint, email us first and we'll try to resolve it. If you're not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, for example by adding a newsletter or advertising, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
