About SortedTradie
SortedTradie is a small, independent Australian website. It exists for one reason: most tradies are very good at their trade and have never been taught the business side. Quotes, invoicing, insurance, ABNs, GST, BAS, software. Nobody hands you a manual when you go out on your own.
So we write the manual, one practical guide at a time.
What we cover
- Business: job management apps, accounting software, tradie insurance, tax basics and the setup steps for sole traders.
- Gear: workwear, boots, power tools, batteries and ute setups.
- Homeowners: how to choose a tradie, check their licence and insurance, and read a quote.
Who we are
Every guide on this site is written and published by The SortedTradie Team. SortedTradie is not owned by a software company, insurer, retailer or comparison site, and nobody pays to be included in a guide or to change what we say about them.
How we research
- Official sources first. Rules, thresholds and tax information come from the ATO, ASIC, Consumer Affairs Victoria, the Building and Plumbing Commission and other regulators, and we link to them so you can check.
- Prices from the provider. We check plans and prices on the provider's own Australian website and say when we checked. If we have to rely on another source, we say so.
- No made-up numbers. If we can't verify a figure, we leave it out or tell you it's unconfirmed.
- Honest about testing. Each guide says whether it's based on hands-on use or on published information.
- Kept up to date. Prices and rules change, so we recheck guides and show the date each one was last updated.
