Disclaimer
SortedTradie is an independent Australian website. You can contact us at [email protected]. Everything on this site is general information only. It is written for Australian tradies and homeowners in general, not for you in particular. It is not legal, tax, accounting, financial, insurance or other professional advice. Please read this page with our terms of use.
General information
- We don't know your circumstances, so our guides can't take them into account.
- We check facts and prices against official and vendor sources and show the month we checked. Things change quickly, and errors can happen. Always confirm the current details with the provider or regulator before you rely on them.
- Product descriptions, features and prices come from the provider's published information unless we say we tested something ourselves.
- To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on the site. See section 3 of our terms of use, including your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
Insurance and financial products
Our insurance and finance articles are factual and general information about types of products and how they work. They are not personal advice and they don't consider your objectives, financial situation or needs. They are not a recommendation or opinion that you should buy, keep or cancel any particular financial product.
- SortedTradie is not an Australian Financial Services (AFS) licensee and does not hold an Australian Credit Licence. We are not insurance brokers or financial advisers, and we don't arrange, issue or deal in insurance or credit.
- Before you buy any insurance, read the insurer's Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD) and check the product suits you.
- Consider getting advice from a licensed insurance broker or financial adviser. You can check whether someone is licensed on the Moneysmart financial advisers register or ASIC Connect.
- Some insurance links are affiliate links. If you buy through one, the provider may pay us a commission. See our affiliate disclosure.
Tax, GST, BAS and business setup
Our tax and business setup guides summarise ATO, ASIC and government guidance at the date shown. SortedTradie is not a registered tax agent or BAS agent, and nothing on the site is tax advice. Tax rules, thresholds and due dates change. Check with the ATO or a registered tax or BAS agent before you act. You can check an agent on the Tax Practitioners Board register.
Costs, licences and hiring a tradie
- Prices are indicative only. Cost ranges come from published sources at the date shown. They are not quotes and real prices vary with the job, location, access, materials and the tradie. Get a written quote.
- Check licences with the regulator. Licence and registration rules differ by state and change over time. Before work starts, check the tradie's licence or registration directly with your state or territory regulator.
- Legal requirements such as compliance certificates, permits and insurance thresholds are summarised in plain English. The regulator's own guidance is the final word.
Safety
Electrical work, gasfitting and most plumbing work must be done by a licensed or registered tradie. Don't attempt it yourself. It can kill or injure, cause fires or floods, void insurance and, in most cases, is illegal. Nothing on this site is instructions for doing licensed work. For tools and gear, follow the manufacturer's instructions and the relevant safety standards.
Tools, workwear and products
Gear guides are based on manufacturer information, published standards and warranty terms unless we say we tested a product. Check that any safety gear meets the standard your site or employer requires.
Affiliate links and independence
Some links earn us a commission. That never changes what we say about a product. Details are on our affiliate disclosure page.
