MYOB has been part of Australian small business for decades. Plenty of trade businesses started on its desktop software years ago, and many accountants still run their practices around it. Today it sells a range of plans, from a phone app for sole traders to desktop software for bigger businesses, and the range can be confusing.

This review sorts out which MYOB plan does what for a tradie, what each costs, and the catches. Prices and features are from MYOB’s Australian pricing page, checked in October 2026. We haven’t run a trade business on MYOB for this review.

For the head-to-head with Xero, see our Xero vs MYOB comparison.

MYOB plans and prices (checked October 2026)

PlanPrice after offerLodges BASPayrollRuns on
Solo$99 a yearNo, tracks GST only NoPhone app only, 1 user
Lite$315 a year Yes$3 a month per employee, up to 2Browser and MYOB Assist app
Pro$70 a month Yes$3 a month per employee, unlimitedBrowser and MYOB Assist app
AccountRight Plus$165 a month YesIncludedDesktop, browser and app

Each plan had an introductory discount when we checked. MYOB says there are no lock-in contracts, with monthly or yearly payment on selected plans. We couldn’t confirm from the pricing page whether the listed prices include GST, so check at checkout.

Solo: cheap, but think hard

Solo is a mobile app for sole operators. It sends unlimited quotes and invoices, tracks income and expenses, and has tap to pay and an in-app business bank account. But:

  • it tracks GST only and doesn’t lodge BAS, so you’d lodge through ATO online services or an agent
  • it’s one user, so your accountant can’t log in (you share reports instead)
  • MYOB says you can’t change from Solo to another plan later

For a brand new sole trader not yet registered for GST, Solo can be enough. Once you’re lodging BAS every quarter, the lack of lodgement and accountant access starts to matter. Our BAS and GST guide explains what’s involved each quarter.

Lite: the sole trader sweet spot

Lite is the plan most sole trader tradies would look at. At $315 a year after the offer, it’s cheaper than a year of any Xero plan we saw. It includes:

  • unlimited quotes, invoices and expenses
  • GST tracking and BAS lodgement
  • up to two connected bank accounts
  • unlimited user profiles, so your accountant and bookkeeper can log in at no extra cost
  • job tracking of progress, profit and loss, and expenses
  • payroll at $3 a month per employee, up to two employees
  • receipt scanning through the MYOB Assist app

Pro: for growing teams

Pro at $70 a month adds unlimited connected bank accounts, unlimited employees on payroll (still $3 each a month), timesheets, rosters and more reporting. If you’ve got a few employees and apprentices, Pro is the MYOB plan built for that.

AccountRight Plus: bigger businesses

At $165 a month, AccountRight Plus adds desktop software for Windows, billing by time, job budgets, stocktakes and comprehensive reporting. It suits established businesses with inventory and office staff. Most sole traders won’t need it.

MYOB with a job app

ServiceM8, Tradify and Fergus all list MYOB integrations, so invoices from your job app can flow into MYOB. Before committing, check any other apps you plan to use, such as payroll tools, supplier invoice scanners or reporting add-ons, also connect to MYOB. Xero generally has wider third party support. Our ServiceM8 vs Tradify vs Fergus comparison lists each job app’s accounting connections.

AI features

MYOB now lists AI features, some in beta: an assistant called Ask Iris, an AI BAS agent available as an extra purchase on Lite and Pro, smart reconciliation and smart invoice reminders on some plans. Treat beta features as helpful extras rather than reasons to choose a plan, and check your BAS figures before lodging.

What we like

  • Lite’s price for a sole trader who needs BAS lodgement.
  • Unlimited user profiles on Lite and above, so your accountant can log in free.
  • Cheap payroll for a first apprentice at $3 a month.
  • Job tracking included on Lite and Pro.

What we don’t

  • Solo’s one-way door. No BAS lodgement and no upgrade path.
  • Confusing line-up. Solo, Lite, Pro, AccountRight Plus and Premier use different apps.
  • Narrower add-on support than Xero.
  • GST in prices wasn’t clear on the pricing page.

MYOB

Good

  • Lite is the cheapest BAS-lodging plan we saw for a sole trader
  • Unlimited user profiles from Lite up
  • $3 a month payroll per employee
  • Job tracking on Lite and Pro

Not so good

  • Solo can't lodge BAS or be upgraded
  • Plan line-up is confusing
  • Fewer third party add-ons than Xero
  • Check whether prices include GST at checkout

Who MYOB suits

  • Sole traders on a budget who need BAS lodgement (Lite).
  • Businesses whose accountant prefers MYOB.
  • Growing teams wanting cheap per-employee payroll (Pro).
  • Established businesses with inventory and time billing (AccountRight Plus).

Who might look elsewhere

If you plan to add lots of apps, or your bookkeeper works mainly in Xero, see our Xero review. For QuickBooks as a third option, see our guide to the best accounting app for sole trader tradies.

What a year costs

At the October 2026 prices, the yearly cost is simple to work out:

PlanYearly cost
Solo$99
Lite$315
Pro$840 ($70 a month)
AccountRight Plus$1,980 ($165 a month)

Add payroll at $3 per employee a month on Lite and Pro, and AI BAS if you buy it. MYOB’s page didn’t make clear whether these prices include GST, so check at checkout. Compared with Xero Ignite at $444 a year including GST, MYOB Lite is cheaper on paper for a sole trader.

A typical month on Lite

  1. Invoice from MYOB or from your job app.
  2. Let the bank feed bring in payments and spending.
  3. Match transactions weekly, and allocate fuel, materials and phone to the right accounts and GST codes.
  4. Attach receipts from your phone.
  5. Prepare your BAS in MYOB, or send the file to your BAS agent.

If you take on an apprentice, Lite handles payroll for up to two employees, and Single Touch Payroll reporting goes to the ATO from the software.

Moving off Solo later

MYOB says you can’t change plan from Solo later. If there’s any chance you’ll register for GST, hire someone or want job tracking, start on Lite. Moving later means setting up a new file and bringing your history across, which is a job you don’t need.

Getting help

If you’re new to bookkeeping, a BAS agent or accountant who works with MYOB can set up your accounts and GST codes properly at the start. That’s usually cheaper than fixing a year of miscoded transactions later. Ask them to check your setup after your first month.

Before you sign up

  1. Decide whether you need BAS lodgement now or within a year. If yes, skip Solo.
  2. Ask your accountant which MYOB plan they’d want you on.
  3. Check your job app and other add-ons connect to MYOB.
  4. Confirm the price after the intro offer, and whether it includes GST.
  5. Set up your bank feeds and reconcile weekly from the start.
